Non-regularized inversion method from light scattering applied to ferrofluid magnetization curves for magnetic size distribution analysis

چکیده
A numerical inversion method known from the analysis of light scattering by colloidal dispersions is now applied to magnetization curves of ferrofluids. The distribution of magnetic particle sizes or dipole moments is determined without assuming that the distribution is unimodal or of a particular shape. The inversion method enforces positive number densities via a non-negative least squares procedure. It is tested successfully on experimental and simulated data for ferrofluid samples with known multimodal size distributions. The created computer program MINORIM is made available on the web. & 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

New method for the determination of the particle magnetic moment distribution in a ferrofluid
We present a new method for the determination of the magnetic moment distribution ρ(μ) of ferrofluid particles from the magnetization curve measured on diluted ferrofluid samples in the liquid state. The method employs the solution of the standard integral equation describing the magnetization of a non-interacting particle system in the given external field as a convolution of the Langevin func...

Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...
متن کامل3D Inversion of Magnetic Data through Wavelet based Regularization Method
This study deals with the 3D recovering of magnetic susceptibility model by incorporating the sparsity-based constraints in the inversion algorithm. For this purpose, the area under prospect was divided into a large number of rectangular prisms in a mesh with unknown susceptibilities. Tikhonov cost functions with two sparsity functions were used to recover the smooth parts as well as the sharp ...
متن کاملUltrasound velocimetry of ferrofluid spin-up flow measurements using a spherical coil assembly to impose a uniform rotating magnetic field
Ferrofluid spin-up flow is studiedwithin a sphere subjected to a uniform rotatingmagnetic field from two surrounding spherical coils carrying sinusoidally varying currents at right angles and 901 phase difference. Ultrasound velocimetry measurements in a full sphere of ferrofluid shows no measureable flow. There is significant bulk flow in a partially filled sphere (1–14 mm/s) of ferrofluid or ...
متن کاملBiomagnetic fluid flow over a stretching sheet with non linear temperature dependent magnetization
The flow of a heated ferrofluid over a linearly stretching sheet is studied in the presence of an applied magnetic field due to a magnetic dipole. It is assumed that the applied magnetic field is sufficiently strong to saturate the ferrofluid and the variation of magnetization with temperature can be approximated by a non linear function of temperature difference. By introducing appropriate non...
